With an initial bonus worth up to $600 and bonus points in several major spending categories, rewards-seekers with good credit will find a lot to like in the Citi Premier® Card.
Citi Premier charges a $95 annual fee, but its initial bonus alone also covers years of annual fees. So if you plan on spending $4,000 within 3 months of opening an account, Citi Premier is a good choice. That’s especially true if your biggest expenses match up with Premier’s bonus rewards categories: travel (airfare, hotels and travel agencies), gas, restaurants and supermarkets.
If you’re still not sure, keep reading. We’ll break down the key factors to consider before applying for the Citi Premier Card.
Citi Premier Review Highlights
Big initial bonus. Citi Premier shows its appreciation for new cardholders who spend at least $4,000 within 3 months of opening account by doling out a bonus of 60,000 points. That bounty is redeemable for $600 in gift cards or travel rewards at thankyou.com. It's one of the bigger initial bonuses available right now.
Excellent travel rewards. Premier gives 3 points per $1 spent on travel-related purchases. That includes airfare, hotel reservations, gas and travel agencies. That earning rate is roughly triple the market average for a rewards card. Plus, for a limited time, you can earn a total of 10 points per $1 spent on hotel, car rentals, and attractions (excluding air travel) booked on the Citi Travel℠ portal through June 30, 2024.
Solid ongoing rewards. Citi Premier also provides triple the market average in rewards on restaurants and supermarket purchases, giving 3 points per $1 spent.
Standard base rewards rate. You’ll get 1 point per $1 spent on purchases that aren’t in bonus categories. That’s normal for a card with extra rewards on certain purchases.
Transferrable points.Citi Premier cardholders can transfer rewards points to some notable frequent flyer programs, including JetBlue’s TrueBlue and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club.
$95 annual fee. At $95, the Citi Premier Card’s annual fee is roughly 4 times higher than what the average credit card charges.
Not built for carrying a balance. Citi Premier doesn’t offer 0% intro rates, so its high regular APR means you’re probably going to overpay on interest if you carry a balance from month to month.
Citi Premier typically makes the cut for WalletHub’s editors’ best travel credit cards due to its plentiful rewards points. On that note, you can often learn the most about a card like Citi Premier by comparing it to other elite options. So, checking out our Citi Premier vs Chase Sapphire Preferred review might make it easier to decide whether or not to apply.

Overall, the best credit cards that I have started off with a $4200 limit. After having it for 4 months, they increased it to $5700. Thank you, Citibank. Keep up the hard work.

I'm wanting to put together a Citi trifecta for maximum rewards on all my day to day spending. They have a weird website and payment app which caused me to pay my first months bill twice over in the amount of $430. My balance was in the negative numbers by that amount. I called in for a refund which was granted right away. This card is my dedicated grocery card to get 5%. I combo what's in my wallet to collect more rewards in my day to day spending.

Fraudulent company and poor customer service. Despite earning over 200000 miles, my boyfriend could not use it, because the website kept telling him to verify his identity by calling customer service. Customer service is not 24 hours and difficult to catch if you work long hours and located in Hawaii.
My boyfriend called customer service several times, but was referred back to the website. He thought everything was taken cared of when he finally got a hold of a representative. However, he found out a few weeks after we returned from our trip that he was charged the full amount of the airfare (about $950) plus a fee to book the flight on the phone. The representative did not use his points as requested. He called to fix this mistake, but they said no and couldn’t do anything about it. Now customer service is telling him to call again and talk to another agent. Apparently, they recorded the conversation between the rep and my boyfriend. Towards the end of the recording, the rep asked if he could charge the fee and the airfare to his card after my boyfriend made it clear to use his points. I heard the conversation and it was clear that my boyfriend called to use his points. It was hard to understand the rep and he made it sound like it was only the booking fee that was going to be charged to his credit card. Why would he ask to charge his credit card the full amount towards the end of the transaction knowing that they already had an agreement to use my boyfriend’s points. Just like the other reviews here says, this card is a total scam. Stay away.

Avoid this company at all cost. You will earn thousands of unused miles because they will do everything in their power to keep you from using them. For example, I couldn’t log in to their website because I needed to verify my account by calling customer service. Customer service is not 24 hours and hard to get a hold of. Hard to understand representatives would rather charge your credit card than use your miles. My credit card was charged even after I clearly told them I wanted to book a flight using my miles. They were extremely unhelpful after telling them about this mistake.

Truly the worst customer service. I've talked to three agents because they can't keep track of what they are doing. I was so glad to talk to an agent without a strong accent but they have not been helpful in the least.

Steer clear. Don't expect the fraudulent Virginia Surety Company ever to take any of your rightful Purchase Protection Claims seriously; they will all be denied, with bogus terms and conditions invoked. Pay your annual fee to a company that is actually willing to allow you to use the services you are paying for.

Apparently made a mistake by enrolling to Citi credit card . Wasted $95 . Very Poor customer service ,call transfer happens from one agent to another on and on for hours , no matter how trivial is your query, low credit limit despite having excellent credit score, available balance not getting updated immediately, even paying balances, are some factors which would make it difficult to earn bonus points on offer. There are no other rewards or offers associated to this card . Customer service agents poor English is difficult to understand. Merchant returns disappears between pending to posted transactions , adding to lots of confusion. Soon I am going to cancel this card .Will not recommend Citi credit card at all , unless you have no other options left on this earth , as far as credit card is concerned.

Don't waste your hard inquiry!!! I got denied and then spoke to the reconsideration line still declined. I have never been declined a credit card and I have a great credit score, great income, and no debt. The next day I applied for the Capital One Venture Miles Rewards card and got approved. That card is much better you get 75,000 miles and you get free to lobby and TSA check-in.

I just signed up for the Citi Premier credit card. I've gotten the card in the mail and activated it promptly as you would with any other credit card. However, for some reason, I am unable to add it to my apple wallet. When I call Citibank to troubleshoot the issue, they tell me that the card is not activated and that they need to send me a code, and ask for my phone number. I give them my phone number and they tell me that they can't use it. No idea why they can't use it. So then I give them my husband's number, and same thing, can't use it. Then I try my fathers number, can't use it. Then they want a fix line, so I go to my husband's work and call them again, give them the number, and, yes, you guessed it, they can't use it! They tell me it has to be a number associated with my account, which my cell phone is, but we've already established that they can't use it. Then she wants my work phone number, but yes we all know by now that that didn't work either. So now they're sending me a letter in the mail that contains some kind of secret information that I will need to give them when I call for the 3rd time, not to mention that it takes 10 days to get the letter and I've now had this stupid card for 2 weeks and I still can't use it! What kind of a joke is this? I've NEVER had to deal with anything this ridiculous. This is ridiculous!!!
